USNA Out at Graduation

It was truly an honor for 25 USNA Out members, partners, and friends to attend the graduation ceremony for the Naval Academy’s Class of 2009. Because it is difficult to put this intense experience to words, I will let the images will speak for themselves.

It was truly an honor for 25 USNA Out members, partners, and friends to attend the graduation ceremony for the Naval Academy’s Class of 2009. Because it is difficult to put this intense experience to words, I will let the images will speak for themselves.
Here are some of the many highlights of the day:
- Marycarol Hennessy ’81 kindly hosted us at her house with coffee and donuts before we headed over to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. (Thank you for your hospitality, Marycarol!)
- The Commander-in-Chief’s helicopter entourage flew over the stadium on its way to land at USNA. His arrival several minutes later at the stadium drew an enthusiastic ovation from the many thousands of people in attendance (on both sides of the packed stadium).
- When the Blue Angels flew overhead at 10:02am it registered with the members of the Class of 2009 that the day was all about them and their accomplishment.
- Due to the crowds, it was not possible for all of us USNA Outers to sit together. In the image above, you see part of our group (L to R): Joe Soto ’83, Jeff Petrie ’89, Frank McNeil ’83, Reeta Whitney ’82, and Skip Muller ’96. The temperature was on the upper side of “warm” in the stands, and those of us without hats or mega sunscreen got a bit pink from exposure to the sun.
- Singing “Navy Blue and Gold” put a lump in my throat (moreso than usual).
- The thrilling “Hat Toss” after “three cheers for those we leave behind.”
- Post-graduation lunch for 23 guests at Mike’s Crab House on the South River.
This should become an annual event for us. For me, it was the next best thing to the graduation of the Class of 1989!
Go Navy!
