Brian Wiechowski – ‘97 grew up in Metuchen, New Jersey, and was nominated for appointment to the US Naval Academy by Representative Frank Pallone in the Congressman’s first year in office. Brian knew from an early age that he wanted to be a pilot, so USNA was a natural place to go. Brian graduated with the Class of 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography/Applied Physics.

Brian served on active duty as an Naval Flight Officer until 2005, flying S-3 Vikings and later a desk in the Pentagon. After leaving the Navy, Brian attended Georgetown University where he earned an M.A. in International Security. He soon moved west to San Francisco where he now works for an internet start-up and is perpetually searching for new bike rides all over the Bay Area.

Brian has been a member of USNAOut since 2009, and has been serving as a member of the Board of Directors since 2011. Through his leadership, Brian has focused on alumni outreach and growing USNAOut’s visibility among LGBT grads and allies.

From Brian:

Beyond the shared Naval Academy experience, being LGBT as a mid, in the fleet and after is another bond we all share. I hope we can continue to find new ways to support each other, socialize regularly and give back to the community. Every time I meet a new USNAOut member, I’m reminded of what a great group of people choose to go to the boat school – with “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the past, I’m very confident our ranks will continue to grow and offer an example to the next generation of mids.
