Plugins

These are the plugins in use on the production site.  A few are installed on the GFM/A site.

Most plugins required some setup.   See explanations of settings that are necessary of our user web experience.  When there are known issues, please submit support tickets.

Contact Form 7

A separate contact form is needed for each unique purpose.

There is a template for the Faces profiles, duplicate it and place in the email address of the Face and put the face URL into the two messages.

Duplicator

Used to backup/archive/recover the site

Dynamic User Directory

This plug in provided by far the best user experience. The initial plugin is free, the additions were one-time use premium.

A user’s appearance on the roster is based on their user roll

Roles and visibility:

  • Subscribers: No
  • Contributor: Yes
  • Author: Yes
  • Editor: Yes
  • Admin: No

Currently working with the plug-in author to allow a metatag to determine visibility, rather than role.  For the time being, users must request to change visibility.

Nav Menu Roles

Used to make menu items appear for logged in vs non-logged in visitors.  Logged in can be further limited by role.

Newsletter


A book has been written about this plug in.  If there is a place for improvement, this is it.  We can do some CSS to make our newsletters look better.

Lists

Lists have been setup for demographic and geographic distribution.  Geographic is self-selecting.

Newsletter – WP Users Integration

Used to integrate the user list with the newsletter list.  New users, INCLUDING JOIN REQUESTS NOT APPROVED are automatically aded to the distro list.

Post SMTP

Allows our website to send mail from usnaout@usaout.org through google SMTP vice being spoofed by the website.  Setup using API.

Really Simple CAPTCHA

Works with google via API to provide the captcha

TablePress

Easy HTML tables generated.

Known issue that TablePress disappears from the admin menu.  Requires that the tablepress_plugin_options be set from 36 to 0.

The following changes have been made to the default settings:

Subscriber

Hide admin bar is check to hide the top admin bar when logged in.

Default permissions:

  • Read

Added permissions:

None

Contributor

Hide admin bar is check to hide the top admin bar when logged in.

Default permissions:

  • Delete posts
  • Edit posts
  • Read

Added:

  • Edit private pages
  • Edit published pages
  • Upload files – allows contributors (99.5% of our visible members) to add photos to their posts.

Author

Hide admin bar

Default permissions:

  • Delete posts
  • Delete public posts
  • Edit posts
  • Edit published posts
  • Publish Posts
  • Read
  • Upload files

Added permissions:

None

Editor

No changes

Super Editor

Same as Editor

WordPress Importer

Temporary until site fully migrated.  Unlikely needed for further use.

Settings

Posts at BLOCKED by default – i.e., only members can see unless “Unblock this page” is checked

Pages are unblocked by default.  Note: this page is BLOCKED.

Known Issues:

Get Notice: screen_icon is deprecated since version 3.8.0 with no alternative available. in /home/usna_out/usnaout.org/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3843 is settings. (support ticket submitted)
