OK folks,
I confess!
Almost five years ago at the the “Meeting of Friends” in San Francisco, the members of the newly formed USNA Out set a goal for ourselves to establish a 501(c)(3) status. This would allow USNA Out to accept gifts from individuals that could be tax deducible. At the “General Membership Meeting” held March 14, 2009, in Washington DC (with teleconferenced call-ins), there was a unanimous renewed interest to follow through on our four year long dream.

As a result of our “Out of Annapolis” project, we have received some very, very generous offers of support, and I expect there may be more coming as the film approaches its debut in early spring 2010. But those offers have been temporarily suspended because our current organization is not capable of taking any donations, USNA Out doesn’t even have a checking account.
Yes, as you can probably imagine that as a former nuclear submarine skipper, I can be a tad bit demanding on my teammates at times. I do confess that I have pushed hard on the other team members to accomplish the goals we set in the March 2009 General Membership Meeting. The team has done it, we’ve finally started moving forward on the 501(c)(3) so USNA Out can more effectively accomplish our objectives and mission and achieve the vision we set for ourselves.
Through our “Out of Annapolis” project, I have already met most of you. I look forward to meeting more of you in the future. As always, please feel free to call or write me about any concerns that you may have.
